Green Beer, Green Shooters and Green Cake?

Celebrate the Green!

So how are you celebrating St. Patrick’s Day on Monday? With green beer, green shooters and green cake?  Or, are you the health-promoting type and prefer Green Smoothies?

Did you know the more green foods and high quality protein you include in your diet, the less cravings you’ll have?  This has been proven over and over again with clients.  It’s as simple as adding Spirulina (high in protein) or GreenZone Powder to your daily regime.  Those who have tried these products have noticed less sugar cravings, more satiety, energy, and balanced blood sugar levels throughout their entire day.

Do you have a favorite Green Drink recipe?  Feel free to send it to me to share with our group. Here are some of my all time favorites:

Pineapple-Coconut Smoothie (adapted from The Great Liquid Diet – Leonard Mehlmauer, ND – my sclerology teacher)

  • 6 oz. fresh-squeezed pineapple juice
  • 3 heaping Tbs. plain yogurt (or coconut milk)
  • 2 large medjool dates (or 4 smaller dates)
  • 2 big Tbs. shredded coconut
  • 1 banana
  • 1 Tbs. Spirulina (or GreenZone powder or equiv.)

Blend well.

Potassium Wonder (The Great Liquid Diet/Mehlmauer, ND)

  • 2-3 cups pure water
  • 1 handful of spinach or other greens
  • 1 avocado
  • 1 apple
  • 3 dates

Blend well.

Dr. Oz’s Green Drink

  • 1 inch square of gingerroot (peeled)
  • 1 tsp. lemon juice
  • 1 tsp. lime juice
  • Handful of spinach
  • Handful of parsley
  • 2 celery stalks
  • 1 inch of cucumber
  • 1 apple

Run all ingredients through a juicer or add enough pure water to make into a blender drink. You may have to de-rib the celery depending on the strength of your blender.

Adding 1 Tbs. of chia, flax, pumpkin, sunflower seeds or hemp hearts to smoothies will add valuable nutrients, protein and essential fatty acids. If you are growing and juicing your own wheat or barley grass, I admire your tenacity! 1 – 2 oz. per day can be taken “straight up” or added to these recipes.  Fresh is always best!

What’s the best blender to use for smoothies?  I’ve had my Vita-Mix for 20+ years.  It’s used almost daily, and sometimes twice a day!  In the past 20+ years I’ve had to send it to Vita-Mix for service once.  When I’m ready to upgrade to newer machine Vita-Mix will give me $150 on trade-in whether or not my Vita-Mix is working.  I’m sure I would have burned out 20+ blenders by now.  I love Vita-Mix, a company that’s been around since 1921 – it’s a company that has stood the test of time. Sort of like B-Well Nutrition serving Hinton since 2000, we’re in our 14th year – I can hardly believe it myself!
